How to Price Your Online Coaching Packages in 2026
June 2, 2026 · 7 min read
Pricing is the single decision that determines how many clients you need, how much time you spend per client, and whether coaching is a side hustle or a full-time business. Most new coaches underprice, then burn out trying to service 40 clients at $50/month instead of 15 clients at $150/month.
Start with your time, not the market
Before looking at competitor pricing, work out how much hands-on time each client actually needs: check-in review, program updates, and messaging. If a client takes 20 minutes a week and you want to earn $60/hour for coaching time, that's a $80/month floor before you've covered software, marketing, or profit.
Three package tiers that actually work
- Self-guided: a template program with async check-ins, no live calls — good for volume at a lower price point.
- Standard coaching: weekly check-ins, program adjustments, and messaging support — this is where most coaches should concentrate their capacity.
- Premium: everything in Standard plus a monthly call, faster response times, and priority scheduling.
The gap between tiers should be meaningful — at least 40-60% price difference — or clients won't see a reason to upgrade.
How many active clients can one coach handle?
For coaches doing genuine weekly check-in review (not just auto-replies), 15-25 active clients is a realistic ceiling before quality drops. If you're capped there, the lever isn't more clients — it's a higher price per client or a lower-touch tier that scales without your direct time.
Raising prices without losing clients
Grandfather existing clients at their current rate for a fixed period (e.g. 90 days), announce the new rate for new sign-ups immediately, and tie the increase to something tangible — a new feature, added support, or simply demand outpacing capacity. Clients rarely leave over a price increase they see coming; they leave over one that feels arbitrary.
If you're building out packages on Formae, your public coach profile shows pricing tiers directly, so this structure becomes the first thing a prospective client sees before they ever message you.
